Kokomo, IN, October 4,
2004 – The Kokomo Technology Center (KTC), the high-tech incubator
that helps new technology-driven companies in Kokomo and Howard
counties realize their potential, has changed its name to Inventrek.
In 2000, the development of the high-tech business
incubator concept began with a small group of individuals who were
interested in the advantages that a technology-driven business incubator
could have for Kokomo. “As the incubator began to make progress
through its beginning stages, it needed a name and hence the Kokomo
Technology Center, said Dr. Michael O’Hair, Associate Dean
for Statewide Technology and Engagement for Purdue University. “However,
as growth and development evolved to its official launch, a new
identity became necessary that would position it as an established,
trustworthy partner in the risky business of new technology-driven
start-ups.” Greg Aaron, President of the KHDC added, “the
marketing committee has done an outstanding job in creating a new
identity that will communicate reliability and solid expertise in
order to convince entrepreneurs and investors to look to us as a
solution and a resource.”
Inventrek’s mission remains the same –
to focus on long-term economic growth by creating new high-tech
companies and supporting the development of new technologies for
existing companies. The organization enlisted local advertising
agency, TBI, to create a brand identity and communication platform
to better reflect the innovative and dynamic nature of their technology
driven business services and clearly distinguish them as pioneers
in their field of expertise. The new name was derived from the word
"invent," which means to produce or contrive (something
previously unknown) by the use of ingenuity or imagination, and
"trek" because it takes start-up companies on a journey
that is sometimes difficult, and unites the two to reflect the mission
and vision of the corporation. TBI also developed the identity line,
“Launch Navigate Innovate,” which further supports the
organization’s new positioning.
Inventrek was launched in January of 2003 as a result
of the joint efforts of Kokomo Howard County Development Corporation
(KHDC), Purdue University and Indiana University-Kokomo. This collaborative
set out to encourage the development of high-tech businesses by
providing services and an atmosphere in which they can thrive and
prosper. Inventrek is led by seasoned professionals who have an
intimate understanding of the challenges businesses encounter today.
The organization helps new technology-driven companies realize their
potential in developing technology-based initiatives by providing
both physical core services (receptionists, copiers, postage machines,
conference rooms and T1 lines) and critical professional/technical
services.
Inventrek utilizes a variety of resources to accomplish
its goals for both the program and the clients for whom it works.
These resources include:
A task force comprised of university and senior-level
professionals who assist in the guidance of the program by offering
their knowledge and expertise as you move through the program. A
mentoring network of skilled professionals who can advise you in
matters such as identifying key industry contacts, current industry
trends, pitfalls to avoid, etc. Interns who assist in evaluating
your competition, market potential, and expansion opportunities.
